Consider the Lilies
/
Do not worry. Easier said than done right?
I saw something on Pinterest the other day that said "consider the lilies". It was a reminder to me that God will provide, he will take care of us. I have decided in this season of our lives to expect the best things to happen, to be on the lookout for good instead of waiting for the bottom to drop out. Doing this however is harder than it seems! Each day I am faced with an opportunity to worry, but I feel the Holy Spirit gently remind me, consider the lilies.
Yesterday was a great day, we spent some time with some great people and headed back to my moms feeling very encouraged. Something happened in the middle of the day that I didn't realize until after the fact was a great example of God providing for us, the Bible says in Matthew 6:8 that God sees what we need ahead of time and provides for it and God did just that for me.
We met with an old friend who is very wise and genuinely loves us about our upcoming adventure, he was asking us lots of important questions about what we were about to do, admittedly he thinks we are a little crazy. By the end our time together he was on board, excited and even prayed for us. I gave him some money that I owed him for services he had proved for us but he refused to take it. So we walked out of the meeting feeling pretty good.

The next appointment of the day was my eye appointment. I went in under the impression that my insurance covered a "complete" pair of glasses, I was under this impression because that is the exact wording they used when they told me what was covered. When you hear the word complete, you are lead to believe that means all of it, right? Wrong! I was handed a pretty hefty bill for my glasses, I think maybe 20% of my lenses were covered and me being seriously cheap was not a happy camper by this point. I think Matt wanted a drink on the way out and I may have yelled at him that we didn't have anymore money for drinks after paying for my glasses! I exaggerated a little, but that's what cheap people do.
I decided I wasn't going to let that ruin what had been a pretty great day, so after another really great dinner spent with some really great people we were headed home. On the way back to my mom's, I started to talk to Matt about how mad I was for getting those glasses, and Matt being the positive person that he is says to me, at least we had the money. We realized then that the exact amount of money we paid for my glasses was the amount our friend refused to take from us.

God knew my glasses were not actually completely covered and he provided for my need even before I needed it. This didn't take him by surprise. I love knowing that my life and my situation is not a shock to God, and if you are reading this today and going through something, it is not a surprise to God either. God makes a way where there seems to be no way, so do not worry,
“Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?" (Matthew 6:28-30 NKJV)
